GIỚI THIỆU

Hội Người Việt Toronto là một tổ chức của người Việt Nam tự do nhằm phục vụ cộng đồng người Việt ở Canada. Hội được thành lập vào năm 1972 bởi một nhóm sinh viên Việt Nam du học Canada thời Việt Nam Cộng Hoà. Đến năm 1979 thì hội phát triển thành một trung tâm công tác xã hội được tài trợ bởi chính phủ. Mục đích tôn chỉ của Hội Người Việt là :

- Cung cấp các dịch vụ hỗ trợ định cư, giúp di dân hoà nhập với cuộc sống mới tại Canada.

-  Hỗ trợ sự việc hòa nhập, tương thân tương ái với các cộng đồng sắc dân khác nhau

-  Gìn giữ, bảo tồn văn hoá Việt Nam, đóng góp vào việc xây dựng nền văn hoá đa dạng của đất nước Canada

Hội người Việt có 3 văn phòng tại Toronto, North York và Scarborough. Hội nhận được sự tài trở bởi: Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Service Canada - The New Horizons for Senior Program, Government of Ontario, City of Toronto, COSTI - Orientation to Ontario Program.

Hội Người Việt còn phục vụ bằng các ngôn ngữ sau: Anh, Pháp,  Việt, Tagalog (Philippines),  Phổ Thông (Quan Thoại), Quảng Đông, Tây Tạng (Tibet), và Hindi (Ấn Độ) .

Land Acknowledgement

Toronto Association Toronto is located in Toronto, also known as Tkaronto. Our organization acknowledges that we are on the land of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Haudenosaunee, the Chippewa and Wendat peoples. Tkaronto is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. Our location is covered by Treaty 13. We respectfully thank these Nations and people for stewarding this land.

Toronto itself is a word that originates from the Mohawk word “Tkaronto,” meaning “the place in the water where the trees are standing,” which is said to refer to the wooden stakes that were used as fishing weirs in the narrows of local river systems by the Haudenosaunee and Huron-Wendat. Davenport and Dupont are prominent streets that many of us travel. What many of us do not know is that they were built upon some of the original portage trails used by Indigenous peoples for many thousands of years.

We know that Indigenous Peoples have always been the protectors of all lands. We are committing to acting in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples.
