Head Researcher / Writer (Five Months Part-time Contract)


Gateway "Vietnamese: From Sea to Sea" project

The project, "Vietnamese: From Sea to Sea", aims to provide Canadians with an opportunity to learn about the culture and traditions of Vietnamese Canadians. The new website will also give Vietnamese Canadians the opportunity to learn more about the traditions of their country of origin in order to share this knowledge with future generations. Developing the website will provide an opportunity for Vietnamese-Canadian youth to gain valuable experience in researching, writing and editing, skills that they will be able to apply in future careers.

About VAT

The Vietnamese Association, Toronto (VAT) is a not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to providing settlement and adaptation services to immigrants and helping them integrate and particiapte successfully in Canadian society. VAT promotes mutual understanding, tolerance and racial harmony among ethno-cultural communities and works for the promotion and preservation of the Vietnamese heritage and culture, and for the enrichment of multiculturalism in Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Work together with the Project Coordinator & Cultural Consultant to develop and implement a strategy to involve other community organization in the development of the website

  • Consult with Vietnamese community members and organizations across Canada to determine content for the website

  • Research related materials, develop/write the content in Vietnamese for all sections of the website

  • Content preparation for the Web (writing for the Web, translating content, preparing multimedia, and gathering pictures)


Others

  • Participate in staff meetings, projects and planning processes as needed

  • Facilitate communication and circulate documents, as required

  • Arrange, participate and/or monitor conference calls, as required

  • Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers and other organizations to support the agency in fulfilling its mission

  • Effectively draw on the support of and coach other staff and volunteers, as required

  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education and experience relevant to content development (writing, editing, publishing)

  • Education and/or experience developing content for online environment and new media

  • Excellent project management skills and experience

  • Knowledge of common and emerging online publishing technologies

  • Superior written communication skills in English or Vietnamese.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, to set priorities and work schedules to meet deadlines, and the ability to be tactful, discreet and sensitive to confidential matters

  • Bilingualism (English and Vietnamese) is desirable
